Monthly Parking Rules: Tip-of-the-Day #107

SAVE YOURSELF UP TO 40% BY PRE-PAYING

I just learned (after working for a new company for a full month) that the lot I've been parking in every day (at $10 a day) has a monthly agreement that will save me 40%!

I'd heard that some lucky people find street parking and are able to park for free just outside the building, but those prize spots are far and few between and generally gone before I even finish showering (perfect example of the early bird getting the worm).

That aside, the only other option is to park in the company lot and pay. Now I thought $10 wasn't so bad because when I worked in the financial district I was paying $25 a day! But then I learned that for a mere $120 a month (or as the parking attendants like to pitch it "just $60 a paycheck") I can pay for a month and save $80! $80 x 12 months is almost $1000! That's A LOT of money. That's a vacation! Or a down payment on a new car!

I was so gleeful when my employee badge was rigged to magically lift the gate sans money that I almost hugged the attendant. No joke! He told me just to put a good word in for him instead. Huh. Okay.

Takeaway: Even if the parking lot you park in doesn't advertise monthly rates you may want to ask because right now a lot of people are cutting back on luxuries like parking and the lot may be eager to lock in a contract even at a discounted price. It's worth checking out!
