Book Hotels (Wisely) Online: Tip-of-the-Day #17

SHOP AROUND WHEN BOOKING HOTEL STAYS

It’s fun to get away but not fun to come home to an outrageous credit card bill. Use sites like Priceline to keep the cost down! Better yet, do your research before even getting to Priceline. TripAdvisor has got to be my favorite site these days. You can navigate hundreds of thousands of reviews on restaurants, hotels, flights, trip ideas and travel guides and review the properties while you're at it. It's a great way to collect valuable, real-time information about a destination of choice prior to departure.

I recently vacationed in Los Cabos, Mexico and didn’t want to spend a fortune on a hotel room (although I wanted to stay at a luxury property...sound familiar?). I researched the properties in the area I was headed on TripAdvisor and then was able to get a room through Priceline for $120 a night when everywhere else featured that same room for at least $350 a night!

And, through Priceline all the taxes and service fees are paid upfront so there aren’t any surprises when you check out from the property. It’s worth doing your homework for the rewards in the end!

Another great site that shows you all your options in one fell swoop is Kayak. The engine will launch a number of different windows giving you every idea from Orbitz to Hotels.com. I'm still a big fan of calling my own price and getting it though. ;)
