Smart Car Shopping Pays: Tip-of-the-Day #100
AVOID SURPRISES WITH YOUR NEXT CAR PURCHASE
In the market for a new ride? Do your homework. You may think you need an SUV (for your kids, pets or fitness equipment) but are you ready to pay nearly twice what a smaller vehicle will run you in gas, repairs and insurance?
Beyond the down payment and incessant monthly payments, consider what a typical repair will cost you, or the cost of gasoline on a weekly/bi-monthly basis.
According to AAA, an SUV costs 67 cents a mile to drive compared with 41 cents for a typical small sedan when you factor in things like insurance, repairs, and depreciation.
Before you buy your next car, go to a site like ConsumerReports.org or Edmunds.com and compare the "true cost to own" of any car you're strongly considering.
It pays to do your research!
